Policy Statement

As a responsible transportation sector provider in Uganda, we believe that the long-term future of our business is best served by respecting the interests of all our stakeholders: Shareholders, Employees (team members), customers, suppliers and the wider community.

We look actively for opportunities to improve the environment and to contribute to the wellbeing of the communities in which we carry out our business or have a business presence.

Our CSR policy sets out the principles we follow and the programmes we have developed to focus on the areas where we have significant impact or influence.

Principles of our CSR policy

Shared responsibility

Social and environmental responsibility involves everyone. In our own case, PRO RIDE’s unique structure which encourages a team spirit of co-ownership and responsibility between all employees regardless of role or responsibility means that every team member (employee) shares in the responsibilities of ownership as well as its rewards. We aim to develop and implement social and environmental policies which fit in with our team members’ everyday activities and responsibilities.

Honesty and accountability

Good governance and democratic ownership means sharing profit, knowledge and power. We will communicate our environmental policies, objectives and performance openly and honestly to all our team members and to others with an interest in our activities, including customers and suppliers. We will encourage them to communicate with us and will seek their views and input to better ourselves as a corporate citizen committed to the wellbeing of all our stakeholders and the environment.

Sustainable progress

We are committed to improving our performance, quality of service and mitigating the negative effects of our business upon all our stakeholders. We will take into account technical developments, changing scientific evidence, costs and customer concerns and expectations in the development and implementation of all new business, social and environmental policies and procedures. We will monitor our performance, set objectives for improvements and report our progress.

Demonstrable compliance

As a minimum, we will meet or exceed all relevant legislation. Where no legislation exists we will seek to develop and implement our own appropriate standards. We view this to be in our interest both socially and economically to do so need not be forced upon us.

Our CSR Programmes

Environment

We will take all reasonable steps to manage our operations so as to minimise our environmental impact and to promote good environmental practice. We will set and follow high standards in our vehicle rental business that ensures our vehicle workshops and vehicle use adheres to strict high standards of quality and safety. We will continue to promote the responsible and sustainable us of our services; and review regularly our business practices and performance to identify how we can improve our energy efficiency, minimise our carbon footprint and the use of non-recyclable materials, reduce water usage, waste disposal and air emissions.

Relationships

We will conduct our business relationships with integrity and courtesy, and honour our trading commitments (both vendor and procurement). Our aim is to build long-term relationships with our clients, team players and suppliers and provide support for small, local current and future potential stakeholder businesses .We are committed to trading fairly with all our suppliers, and will communicate our responsible sourcing expectations to them in the areas of health, safety and worker welfare, sustainable and profitable vehicle maintenance, customization and use, and good environmental practice.

Communities

We will build relationships with our customers, suppliers and the local communities we’re part of by encouraging our team members and business partners to consider the needs of others and involve themselves in public service. We will obtain a wide range of views on our social and environmental policies and performance with a view to keep bettering ourselves.

Of first priority public service and contribution interest is the community at the Kiteezi Garbage dump which not only consumes our (workshop) waste but is a vital participant in the waste recycling process of not only our garbage but probably most of the waste in our city. As Pro-Ride we view this community as an industrious partner in need of training, support and encouragement. In sorting out and disposal of our waste we view it as important that all our employees recognise the need to do so in a way that will ensure the safety and promote the continued development of this industrious and vital community plus we encourage all our team members to take the time to engage the community at the dump, offering help and resources that can ensure that they go about their work safely.

We will respect our team members and encourage their development and training. We will promote equality as differences in responsibilities permit, and consider the interests of our team members including their welfare, health and safety.

We aim to empower our team members and we will recognise individual contributions and reward them fairly. Our ultimate aim is the happiness of our members through their worthwhile and satisfying employment in our successful business.
